Future Fiber-Optic Networks

• Fiber Link Around the Globe (FLAG) is a privately owned consortium lead by NYNEX to link 12 sites along a 29,000 km undersea cable route connecting Europe, North Africa, India, Asia and Japan.

• Africa ONE is a ring around Africa proposed by AT&T and Alcatel. The 39,000 km long undersea cable has an estimated cost $2.65B. Awaiting financial backing from World Bank.
